Patna Metro achieves first fitness trial run on Blue Line, advancing toward operational readiness

Patna Metro has conducted a fitness trial run at Metro line-2 (Blue line) from Patna Depot to Bhoothnath Metro Station. The aim of the trial run is to test the Rolling stock, OHE, and track systems thoroughly, ensuring efficient operation and complete safety. This blue line metro is a significant project that will improve the urban transit network in Bihar and is expected to be operational soon.

Introduction:

The Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) has marked a major achievement with the successful completion of the Patna Metro’s first fitness trial run at Blue line. The test, conducted between Patna Depot and Bhoothnath Metro Station on 7th September, 2025, showcases the readiness of vital systems and sets the stage for subsequent phases of testing and integration.

This development highlights Bihar’s entry into the modern urban transport network, bringing the state capital closer to a future of efficient, safe, and sustainable mass rapid transit.

Details of the Trial:

The fitness trial run involved the following system assessments:

  • Rolling Stock Fitness: Evaluated performance, stability, and safety of the metro train on tracks.
  • Overhead Electrification (OHE) System: Verified power supply and efficiency of the electrical systems.
  • Track Fitness: Checked alignment, strength, and durability of tracks for safe operations.

The positive outcome of these checks has reinforced confidence in the metro system’s engineering and design.

Next Steps in the Process:

Following this trial, the project will proceed toward:

  • System Integration Tests: Ensuring seamless coordination among signaling, telecom, electrical, and rolling stock systems.
  • Dynamic Trials: Simulating real-time operating conditions to evaluate train performance and passenger safety.
  • Commercial Readiness: After successful testing, the metro line will move closer to passenger operations.

These steps are critical in ensuring that the metro operates at world-class safety and reliability standards.

Scope of Line 2 (Blue Line):

  • Total Length: 14.05 km
  • Corridor: Patna Junction Railway Station to New ISBT
  • Stations: 12 strategically located metro stations
  • Objective: Reduce traffic congestion, enhance last-mile connectivity, and provide modern commuting options to Patna residents.

This corridor is central to Patna Metro’s blueprint, integrating residential and commercial hubs with key transit points.

Broader Impact:

The Patna Metro is not just a transport initiative but also a catalyst for urban transformation. By offering an alternative to road traffic, it will reduce pollution, save travel time, and boost economic productivity.

For Bihar, the project reflects a leap toward aligning with India’s broader vision of modern, sustainable, and interconnected urban transport systems.

Conclusion:

The fitness trial of Patna Metro brings the metro closer towards operational readiness, marking a milestone in Bihar’s development journey. With key systems performing as efficiently as expected, the project is advancing toward integration and dynamic trials. The development positions Patna to soon offer citizens an advanced, safe, and efficient metro service.
