Maha-Metro Nagpur has gained an achievement with the Kamptee Road Double-Decker Viaduct being certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest in the metro category. The viaduct spans 5.62 km and is an engineering marvel consisting of a four-layer transport system is proof of the advancement of Nagpur Metro’s infrastructure. This showcases India’s commitment towards building world-class metro infrastructure that is manufactured indigenously.
Introduction:
Nagpur Metro has once again made a name in the global platform with its engineering excellence. The Kamptee Road Double-Decker Viaduct, stretching 5,626.44 meters, has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the “Longest Metro Double-Decker Viaduct” in the world.
The recognition was conferred in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis at Ramgiri, Nagpur. Shri Swapnil Dangarikar from Guinness World Records presented the certificate to Shri Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha-Metro, with senior officials of Maha-Metro, NHAI, and project leadership also in attendance.
Engineering Excellence:
The viaduct stands as a benchmark of structural and architectural innovation. Built on single piers, it incorporates advanced “Rib and Spine” technology and covers a total of 5.637 km. A unique highlight lies at Gurudwara, Gaddigodam, where a four-tier traffic system has been realized—an unprecedented arrangement in India.
Key Features:
- Length: 5.62 km, India’s longest metro double-decker viaduct.
- Stations: Five metro stations—Gaddigodam Chowk, Kadbi Chowk, Indora Chowk, Nari Road, and Automotive Chowk.
- Design: Four-tier system with ground road, flyover highway, metro viaduct, and railway tracks.
- Construction Feat: A 1,650-ton capacity balanced cantilever span built in dense traffic zones.
- Efficiency: Time and fuel savings by easing traffic congestion on Kamptee Road.
Second Global Recognition for Nagpur:
This is Maha-Metro’s second Guinness World Record after the 3.14 km Wardha Road Double-Decker Viaduct received recognition in December 2022. With both viaducts together, Nagpur now boasts nearly 9 km of world-class double-decker infrastructure—a rare feat for any metro city worldwide.
Benefits to the City:
The Kamptee Road Viaduct is not only a record-setting structure but also a functional solution to urban mobility challenges. By integrating metro and highway infrastructure, it reduces land acquisition needs, cuts construction costs, and enhances transport efficiency. The viaduct has already eased traffic pressure on one of Nagpur’s busiest corridors.
Conclusion:
The Guinness World Record for the Kamptee Road Double-Decker Viaduct highlights India’s growing capability in metro engineering and sustainable urban planning. Maha-Metro Nagpur’s accomplishments goes beyond recognition, it provides benefits like reducing traffic congestion, saving costs, and creating a globally benchmarked transport model that sets new standards for urban mobility.
