Maha Metro has successfully launched the first span of Reach-2B in Nagpur Metro Phase-2, a significant move towards expansion of the Orange Line. Extending 6.016 km from Lekha Nagar to Kanhan River Metro Station, this corridor will boost urban connectivity and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
Introduction:
Nagpur Metro has achieved a significant milestone in its Phase-2 expansion with the launch of the first span on Reach-2B of the Orange Line. The event was led by Maha Metro Managing Director Shri Shravan Hardikar, accompanied by Director (Projects) Shri Rajeev Tyagi, Executive Director Shri Arun Kumar, and Chief Project Manager (Reach-2) Shri Vidyasagar NVP, along with senior officials.
This achievement underscores the city’s commitment to providing faster, smarter, and sustainable urban connectivity, with Reach-2B forming an integral part of the northward extension of the Orange Line.
About Reach-2B Corridor:
The Reach-2B corridor extends 6.016 km, running from Lekha Nagar (Asha Hospital) to Kanhan River Metro Station. This stretch is vital for improving last-mile connectivity to areas such as cantonment zones, educational institutions, hospitals, and key bus stations in Nagpur.
The Orange Line’s expansion is part of a larger 12 km extension connecting Automotive Chowk to Sai Mandir (Kanhan River), thereby bridging urban clusters with growing suburban zones.
Division of Reach-2: Two Critical Segments:
Phase-2’s Reach-2 is divided into two sub-sections:
- Reach 2A – covering Vihirgaon, Khasara Phata, All India Radio, Khairi Phata, Lok Vihar, and Lekha Nagar.
- Reach 2B – extending further to Cantonment, Kamptee Police Station, Kamptee Municipal Council, Dragon Palace, Golf Club, and Kanhan River Metro Station.
Together, these segments will provide comprehensive coverage to densely populated areas and strengthen Nagpur’s public transport ecosystem.
Technical Achievement:
The first span launched in Reach-2B measures 25 meters in length and comprises nine segments. It was erected using the launching girder “Sahyadri”, marking a major technical milestone for the project. This success paves the way for faster execution of upcoming spans, ensuring timely progress in Phase-2.
Importance for Nagpur’s Connectivity:
Once completed, Reach-2B will significantly enhance daily commuting for thousands of passengers. It will connect neighborhoods with major transit hubs, reduce road traffic, and promote sustainable mobility across the northern part of Nagpur. The metro corridor is designed to offer seamless connectivity while supporting the city’s long-term vision of smart urban development.
Expected Timeline:
The corridor is projected to be completed within 24 months, adding momentum to the overall Phase-2 expansion plan of Nagpur Metro. With timely execution, citizens can expect improved accessibility to workplaces, schools, healthcare facilities, and commercial centers in the near future.
Conclusion:
The launch of the first span on Reach-2B is a crucial step for the Nagpur Metro’s Phase-2 journey. By reinforcing urban mobility and lowering dependence on road transport, the Orange Line extension poised to transform connectivity in Nagpur and set new benchmarks in sustainable metro infrastructure.
