GPT Infraprojects wins Rs. 481 crore civil contract from South Eastern Railway for Howrah–Kharagpur project

South Eastern Railway has awarded a prestigious Rs. 481.11 crore EPC contract to GPT Infraprojects Limited for the construction of Important Bridge No. 57 over River Rupnarayan, including viaducts, platforms, and station development on the Howrah–Kharagpur route. The project promises cutting-edge rail infrastructure and capacity in the region.


Project Overview:

  • Construction of Important Bridge No. 57 over River Rupnarayan
  • Viaducts on either side (26 spans of 30.5m composite girders)
  • Elevated Platforms 1 & 2 at Kolaghat Station
  • Railway station building, service building, staff quarters

Detailed Scope of Work:

Engineering Activities: Detailed survey, soil & hydrological investigations, Preparation of GAD (General Arrangement Drawings) and Design Basis Report (DBR), Structural design and drawings, Load deflection tests (foundation & superstructure).

Construction Scope: Bridge construction including 7×91.4m + 4×30.5m OWG spans, Viaducts, earthwork, blanketing, P.Way works, Associated infrastructure including platforms and station development.

Design & Safety Provisions:

  • Designed for DFC loading substructure and 25T axle load superstructure
  • Detailed planning for design discharge, flood levels, scour history, and vertical clearance
  • Minimum 50m distance from existing bridge to avoid pressure bulb interference
  • Consideration of river training, guide banks, retaining walls as per site needs

Inspection and Safety Infrastructure: Cable ducts, safety railings, inspection platforms, ladders, and trolley refuges, OHE foundations and pathways for maintenance.

Railway Compliance: Conforms to 2×25 kV AC clearance for OHE, Designs based on latest Railway Board and RDSO codal provisions, Full documentation including QAP, WPSS, method statements, and DBRs for approval.

Infrastructure Development at Kolaghat Station: Construction of elevated Platforms 1 & 2, Station building, service buildings, and staff quarters, Alignment diversion works to accommodate new bridges and platforms.
