GMRL awarded geotechnical survey contract to Techpro Engineers for Gurugram Metro corridor

Gurugram Metro Rail Limited has awarded a Rs. 68.6 lakh contract to Techpro Engineers Pvt. Ltd. for geotechnical investigation of the 16 km Metro Corridor from Sector-9 to Cyber City Station. The project includes assessing soil and rock strata, groundwater conditions, and recommending foundation designs for 14 stations, a railway spur, and a depot.

Introduction:

Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has awarded an important contract to Techpro Engineers Pvt. Ltd. for carrying out the geotechnical survey for the upcoming 16 km Gurugram Metro Corridor. The corridor will include 14 stations, extending from Sector-9 to Cyber City Station, with an additional spur to Gurugram Railway Station and a depot facility.

The contract, valued at Rs. 68,60,074, is to be executed within a period of 60 days from the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance. This move will the engineering and construction phases of the elevated metro line, which is expected to greatly enhance public transportation in Gurugram.

Scope of Work:

The geotechnical investigation is a foundational process in metro construction, providing detailed insights into subsurface conditions that influence structural design. Techpro Engineers will conduct:

  • Comprehensive Reporting: Preparation of a detailed report summarising soil and rock classifications.
  • Data Analysis: Evaluation of laboratory and in-situ test data.
  • Foundation Recommendations: Design calculations and suggestions on the most suitable foundation types.
  • Design Criteria & Methodology: Outlining the categorisation of soil strata and corresponding design parameters.

This scope ensures that the structural design of the elevated corridor is aligned with site-specific ground conditions, thereby enhancing safety and durability.

Methodology and Field Investigations:

The work will involve rigorous on-site and laboratory-based investigations, including:

  • Borehole Drilling: Penetrating soil and rock layers to assess subsurface profiles.
  • Standard Penetration Tests (SPT): Measuring soil resistance to determine load-bearing capacity.
  • Sample Collection: Procuring soil and rock samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Groundwater Monitoring: Measuring and recording water table levels along the alignment.

These findings will be instrumental in determining structural load capacities, foundation depths, and construction techniques.

Project Significance:

The 16 km Gurugram Metro Corridor is a flagship infrastructure project aimed at improving urban mobility, reducing road congestion, and providing efficient last-mile connectivity in one of India’s fastest-growing cities. The alignment will connect residential, commercial, and industrial hubs, including Cyber City and Gurugram Railway Station.

By awarding the geotechnical investigation to Techpro Engineers, GMRL is ensuring that the project benefits from a strong technical foundation, which is vital for the long-term safety and performance of the metro infrastructure.

Conclusion:

The geotechnical survey marks a crucial preparatory phase in the Gurugram Metro’s development. With Techpro Engineers leading the study, the project is set on a firm path towards safe, efficient, and sustainable construction, strengthening Gurugram’s vision for modern, reliable, and world-class urban transit infrastructure.
