Wabtec Corporation has announced the winners of its 2024-25 “Exceed 3.0 Campus Challenge” in India, highlighting young talent in railway technology. Over 500 students from 70 institutes competed, with teams from VIT Bhopal, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Cummins College, and VIT Chennai emerging as top winners for their groundbreaking solutions in rail infrastructure and operations.
Wabtec Recognizes Brightest Young Innovators in Rail Technology:
This year’s winning team hailed from VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology), Bhopal, with their innovative project on “Decoding, Categorizing, and Graphical Representation of Errors with Their Frequency.” The first runner-up was from Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara, who presented a “Automated Train Scheduling and Routing” system. The two runners-up were from Cummins College of Engineering for Women, Pune (Safe Siding of Trains) and VIT Chennai (Application of Computer Vision for Rail Infrastructure Inspection).
The competition saw 150 teams and over 500 students from 70 institutes participate. After rigorous evaluation, eight teams made it to the final round, where they presented their projects to senior leaders at Wabtec India Technology and Engineering Centre in Bangalore. The top three teams secured a combined cash prize of Rs. 2.75 lakh.

Background:
Wabtec invited applications in August 2024, opening the challenge to students from first-year undergraduates to Ph.D. scholars. The contest encouraged interdisciplinary innovations across mechanical and software engineering, robotics, AI, cloud computing, condition monitoring, hydrogen-powered locomotives, and braking performance.
