Texmaco Rail wins MRVC contract for traction transformers and sectioning posts on Central Railway

Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd. has won a significant contract worth Rs. 44.04 crore from Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) for the supply and commissioning of traction transformers, SPs and associated works. The project will be executed in the 3rd and 4th lines of Central Railway within an 18-month period.


Introduction:

In a bold move toward reinforcing the rail infrastructure in Mumbai, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Limited (MRVC) has awarded a contract to Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited for the execution of crucial electrification works. The project has to be completed within 18 months, it will accelerate the operational efficiency of the rail lines.

Project Details:

Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited will undertake the Supply, Construction, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning of the electrification infrastructure, which includes-

  • One 25 kV, 110/25 kV Traction Substation (TSS), equipped with 40/56 MVA AC traction transformers.
  • Two Sectioning Posts (SPs).
  • Associated civil, electrical, and commissioning works as part of the contract.

By this initiative the 3rd and 4th lines of the Central Railway will gain development in rail infrastructure and electrification. The railway line is vital for Mumbai’s suburban and intercity rail traffic.

Scope and Technical Details:

  • The 1×25 kV system to be implemented is a standard system used in high-capacity electrified railway corridors.
  • The 40/56 MVA traction transformers will benefit by efficiently managing the load requirements for suburban operations, allowing a stable and reliable power supply.
  • Sectioning Posts (SPs) are main components in segmenting power zones and isolating faults, which helps in better maintenance and safety.

Strategic Importance:

This contract is part of MRVC’s dedication under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) to reduce congestion and modernize the suburban rail network. Electrification and the addition of dedicated traction infrastructure are crucial in accelerating capacity, speed, and energy efficiency across the suburban railway system.
