The Telangana Cabinet has sanctioned the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project with an investment of Rs. 24,269 crore. Aiming for completion in four years, the expansion will connect key regions across 116.2 km, including an airport link and historical sites. Strategic alignments ensure preservation while enhancing connectivity across the city.
Approved Metro Corridors in Phase 2:
Corridor IV: Nagole – RGIA (Airport Corridor):
- Length: 36.6 km
- The Airport Corridor is a mix of elevated and underground sections, covering 35 km of elevated track and 1.6 km underground. It will interconnect existing metro lines at Nagole, L.B. Nagar, and Chandrayangutta, featuring 24 stations, including an underground station at the airport.
Corridor V: Raidurg – Kokapet Neopolis:
- Length: Extension from Blue Line
- Extending from Raidurg Metro station to Kokapet Neopolis, this elevated corridor passes through major business hubs like Biodiversity Junction, Financial District, and Wipro Circle, featuring eight stations.
Corridor VI: MGBS – Chandrayangutta (Old City Corridor):
- Length: 7.5 km
- Known as the Old City Metro, this corridor preserves historical landmarks by incorporating engineering solutions. The road widening will ease congestion along a 100-120 ft path, and the line will be elevated with six stations.
Corridor VII: Miyapur – Patancheru:
- Length: 13.4 km
- Aimed at reducing traffic on the Mumbai highway, this elevated line extends from Miyapur to Patancheru, with ten stations along major transit points.
Corridor VIII: L.B. Nagar – Hayat Nagar:
- Length: 7.1 km
- This extension along the Vijayawada highway from L.B. Nagar to Hayat Nagar covers six stations, improving connectivity for southeastern commuters.
Corridor IX: RGIA – Fourth City (Skill University):
- Length: 40 km
- This planned line will connect the Airport to Fourth City via Mansanpally Road and ORR. The route includes 2 km underground, 20 km elevated, and an 18 km ‘At Grade’ section integrated with a new 300 ft greenfield road.
