SYSTRA India is advancing metro development in Andhra Pradesh by updating the Comprehensive Mobility Plans for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. With 46 km across 3 lines in Visakhapatnam and 38 km across 2 lines in Vijayawada, these projects aim to secure government approval and funding for world-class urban mobility systems.
Introduction:
As part of a strategic move, SYSTRA India is reshaping urban transport for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada by updating their Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMPs), last prepared in 2019. These updated plans form the foundation for obtaining crucial government approvals and funding.
Visakhapatnam Metro: A 46 km Vision:
- Corridor 1 ( Steel Plant to Kommadi)
- Corridor 2 (Gurudwara to Old Post Office)
- Corridor 3 (Thadichetlapalem to R.K. Beach)
- Corridor 4 (Kommadi to Bhogapuram)
This extensive network aims to improve public transport, reduce traffic, and support sustainable urban growth.

Vijayawada Metro (38 km): Linking the City with Two Lines:
- Phase 1A (Gannavaram to PNBS)
- Phase 1B (PNBS to Penamaluru)
- Phase 2 (PNBS to Amaravathi Reservoir)
This system will improve city connectivity and encourage a shift from private to public transport.
Importance of Updated Mobility Plans:
The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL) relies on these updated CMPs to secure government approval. The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) by SYSTRA India, built on the CMPs, are essential for unlocking state and central government funding.
Towards a Sustainable Urban Future:
Both metro projects promise to deliver fast, reliable, and safe mobility solutions, marking a transformative leap for Andhra Pradesh’s urban landscape. SYSTRA India’s expertise ensures these metros meet international standards, supporting the region’s long-term economic growth and sustainable development.
