Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has successfully achieved tunnel breakthroughs in two prestigious projects — the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Project in Uttarakhand and the Wardha–Nanded Rail Project in Maharashtra. This milestone showcases RVNL’s technical capability and expertise, accelerating the infrastructure development in rough terrains.
Tunnel Breakthrough in Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Rail Link:
In a significant development, RVNL has completed a 6.6 km long tunnel between Gullar and Byasi in Uttarakhand. The tunnel is a part of the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag New Broad Gauge Rail Line project, aims to improve railway connectivity in the challenging hilly areas. This was the final tunnel breakthrough of the Package-2, it spans 26,674 kms from Shivpuri to Byasi.
The tunnel breakthrough was crucial for the rail infrastructure development in the Himalayan region, it will bring Uttarakhand closer to other cities of India by railway network. Several cutting-edge technologies were used for tunneling work in the rough mountainous terrain. The tunneling work is successful due the coordination and the continuous efforts of the RVNL’s team, it showcases the corporation’s commitment to accelerate rail development in India.
- Project Overview: Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Line
- Total Length: 125.20 km
- Location: Uttarakhand
- Sanctioned in: Union Budget 2010–11
- Estimated Cost: Rs. 16,216 crore
- Stations Proposed: 11
- Objective: To connect the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit and five major districts of Uttarakhand
Once operational, this rail line will minimise travel time and enable better accessibility to pilgrimage destinations, contributing to both regional development and religious tourism in the state.
Tunnel Breakthrough in Wardha–Nanded New BG Line Project, Maharashtra:
In another key success, RVNL has completed the breakthrough of Tunnel No. 3 (370 metres) on the Wardha–Nanded New Broad Gauge Line Project in Maharashtra. This tunnel work was accomplished in just 4 months, the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), which is known for its adaptability in varying geological conditions.
This project marks a strategic advancement in the region’s railway infrastructure, enabling better freight and passenger movement between central Maharashtra and adjacent regions. RVNL’s fast execution shows their evolving capacity in fast-paced infrastructure development.
Conclusion:
The dual tunnel breakthroughs highlight RVNL’s sheer effort in boosting rail infrastructure growth in challenging terrains in India. Pilgrimage journey will become seamless because of Uttarakhand’s rail project progress, while Maharashtra’s progress will accelerate connectivity across the area. With these projects underway RVNL is reinforcing its position as a leader in transportation infrastructure in India.
