Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has awarded MKC Infrastructure Ltd. a Rs. 699.98 crore contract for constructing a roadbed, bridges, buildings, and track installation (excluding supply of rails and sleepers) on the new Indore–Budni railway line. The contract, to be completed in 36 months, and it will improve connectivity and economic growth.
Introduction:
MKC Infrastructure Limited received an order from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for the construction of the new Broad Gauge (BG) railway line between Kheri (Excl) and Pipaliya Nankar stations in the Indore–Budni section of the Bhopal Division, West Central Railway, Madhya Pradesh.
Contract Details:
The contract, valued at Rs. 699,97,77,803.86, covers the construction of roadbed, minor bridges, buildings, track installation (excluding the supply of rails, sleepers, and thick web switches), and general civil and electrical works. The project is scheduled for completion within 36 months.
Scope of Work:
- Earthwork & Minor Bridges: Covering chainages from 66.040 to 82.820 Km and 90.200 to 129.000 Km, excluding tunnel and viaduct sections.
- Track Installation: Between 57.400 Km and 129.000 Km, excluding the supply of key components.
- Buildings & Amenities: Includes platforms, passenger amenities, cement and reinforcement supply, site facilities, and electrical works.
Strategic Importance:
The new railway line (Indore–Budni, INDB–BNI) will reduce the travel distance between Indore and Jabalpur by approximately 74.22 Km, enhancing transportation efficiency and generating employment. This project, sanctioned in the first phase by the Railway Ministry, is vital for regional development.
Geographical & Technical Highlights:
The alignment traverses plain and hilly terrains, passing through revenue and forest areas without intersecting wildlife sanctuaries or eco-sensitive zones. Key technical features include:
- Maximum curvature of 2.25 degrees
- 1 in 200 compensated gradient
- Designed for 25T-2008 loading standard.
The project navigates the Deccan Plateau, with steep gradients up to chainage 84.00 beyond Mangliyagaon, before descending toward the Narmada Valley.

This critical infrastructure project underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing connectivity and boosting regional development.
