Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vaishali–Deoria Rail Line and flagged off the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express. A major milestone was also marked with the export of the first locomotive from Marhowra to Guinea. These initiatives promise an increase in regional connectivity, industrial growth, and global recognition for Bihar’s railway manufacturing. The PM will also inaugurate several railway projects in Odisha.
Introduction:
In an advancement towards infrastructure and regional development in Bihar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Vaishali–Deoria Rail Line, flagged off the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express, launched a new local train service, and marked the export of a Make-in-India locomotive to Guinea, Africa. The event, held in Siwan, underscored the government’s commitment to transforming rail connectivity and manufacturing prowess in eastern India.
Inauguration of Vaishali–Deoria Rail Line:
The newly inaugurated 29-km-long rail line between Vaishali and Deoria in Bihar has been built at a cost of approximately Rs. 403 crore. This crucial section aims to reinforce regional connectivity, especially by connecting important Buddhist and Jain pilgrimage sites such as Vaishali and Kesaria Stupa. The line is poised to benefit heritage tourism, promote agro-based industries in northern Bihar, and ensure quicker freight movement towards the Raxaul Terminal on the India–Nepal border.
Launch of Passenger Train Service on the Deoria–Vaishali Section:
A new passenger train service on the same 29-km Deoria–Vaishali route was flagged off. This step accelerates local mobility, particularly for rural communities and agricultural stakeholders. The route will bring efficiency in the transportation of farm produce, create employment opportunities, and inculcate stronger trade and logistics infrastructure within the region.
Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express:
The much-anticipated Vande Bharat Express was flagged off, covering a 384 km stretch between Patliputra and Gorakhpur via key stations such as Muzaffarpur, Bettiah, and Kushinagar. It is the first semi-high-speed train on this route, significantly minimising travel time and offering modern facilities. This train improves regional access to medical, educational, and business hubs while supporting tourism and socio-economic growth in both Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Export of Locomotive from Marhowra to Guinea:
Showcasing a leap towards India’s rail manufacturing capabilities, the Prime Minister also flagged off the first locomotive manufactured at the Marhowra Locomotive Factory for export to the Republic of Guinea. This 4500 HP, state-of-the-art locomotive comes equipped with advanced AC propulsion, regenerative braking, air-conditioned cabs, and energy-efficient technologies suitable for varied global climates. The export symbolizes India’s emergence as a global railway manufacturing hub and supports the “Make in India – Make for the World” initiative.
Strengthening Railway Infrastructure & Connectivity in Odisha:
PM Shri Modi will inaugurate the new rail line between Sonepur and Purunakatak, lay the foundation stone for the 3rd and 4th lines between Sarla and Sason, and flag off new train services connecting Sonepur, Boudh, Purunakatak, and Balangir, enhancing regional rail connectivity.
He will also dedicate key infrastructure to the nation, including a freight train maintenance facility at Sarla, a subway in the Bamra–Dharuadihi section, a crucial link in the Bondamunda–Ranchi doubling project, a Road Over Bridge at Jaleswar, and the 4th rail line between Jharsuguda and Jamga, boosting freight and passenger movement across Odisha.
Conclusion:
These landmark inaugurations and flag-offs mark a transformative phase for Bihar’s rail sector. From boosting tourism and trade to global exports and high-speed connectivity, the initiatives represent a multidimensional upgrade in infrastructure, manufacturing, and mobility—propelling Bihar onto the national and global railway map with renewed vigor and opportunity.
