NCRTC has completed civil construction of a 280-meter-long Foot Over Bridge connecting Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. With six travelators and upgraded road access, this development ensures safer, faster, and more convenient interchange for lakhs of daily commuters across rail and rapid transit systems.
Introduction:
The civil construction of the 280-meter-long Foot Over Bridge (FOB) linking Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station has been successfully completed by NCRTC. The bridge features six state-of-the-art travelators to ensure effortless movement, offering a convenient, shaded, and automated walkway for passengers transferring between two of Delhi’s busiest transport hubs.
Enhanced Road Infrastructure and Public Access:
The road leading to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station is now fully accessible to the public. To further improve usability and longevity, a fresh layer of blacktop has been applied, increasing road durability and ensuring a smoother vehicular and pedestrian experience.
Focus on Commuter Safety and Inclusivity:
- The FOB has been designed with inclusive access in mind, catering specifically to women, senior citizens, children, differently-abled individuals, and commuters with luggage.
- It eliminates the need to cross busy roads with heavy traffic, which has historically posed a safety hazard for thousands of daily users.
- The seamless transition will reduce travel fatigue and time for all categories of passengers.
Critical Solution to Traffic Congestion Challenges:
- Sarai Kale Khan is a congested transit point where Indian Railways, interstate buses (ISBT), metro services, and Namo Bharat converge.
- The absence of pedestrian infrastructure had long contributed to bottlenecks and safety risks.
- With lakhs of commuters using this junction daily, the FOB offers a sustainable and long-term mobility solution, easing both pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area.
Sarai Kale Khan Emerging as a Mega Mobility Hub:
The Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station will offer direct connectivity with DMRC’s Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and Veer Haqiqat Rai Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Facilities at the station include 12 escalators, 4 lifts, and platform screen doors — all installed and ready for operation — highlighting the station’s readiness to function as a future-ready multi-modal interchange point.
Conclusion:
The new Foot Over Bridge marks a vital milestone in NCRTC’s mission to provide integrated, commuter-friendly transit solutions. As Sarai Kale Khan grows into a multi-modal transport hub, such infrastructure will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility across Delhi and the surrounding regions.
