The Northeast Frontier Railway successfully conducted the first-ever trial run of a goods train on the Shokhuvi-Molvom section in Nagaland. Project Overview:
The Dimapur-Kohima New Rail Line Project spans 82.50 km, linking Dhansiri station in Assam to Zubza near Kohima, Nagaland. The project includes:
- 08 new stations: Dhansiri, Dhansiripar, Shokhuvi, Molvom, Pherima, Piphema, Menguzuma, and Zubza.
- 27 major bridges, 148 minor bridges, 5 Road Over Bridges, and 15 Road Under Bridges.
- 21 tunnels covering a total of 31 km.
- A 16.5 km stretch from Dhansiri to Shokhuvi was commissioned in October 2021.
Operational Progress & Future Prospects:
Passenger train services are already operational between Shokhuvi and Naharlagun (Arunachal Pradesh) and Shokhuvi and Mendipathar (Meghalaya). The successful trial of goods trains further strengthens the region’s connectivity and economic potential. With the inclusion of Molvom station, businesses and trade in Nagaland are expected to thrive.
