The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded a significant contract to Vossloh Cogifer Turnouts India Pvt. Ltd. for the design and supply of check rail arrangements using UIC 33 rails for the 4900-metre ballastless track of Mumbai Metro Line 6. The project aims to ensure safety and durability on sharp curves along the Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli corridor.

Vossloh Cogifer will be responsible for:
- Design: The check rail system and fastening components will be designed in line with the General Arrangement Drawings (GAD) of the Mumbai Metro Line 6.
- Manufacturing: The production of UIC 33 rails, in compliance with the approved design, will ensure durability and strength for the sharp curves.
- Inspection & Testing: All materials will undergo rigorous inspections as per DMRC’s approved Inspection Test Plan (ITP).
- Logistics: The contractor will manage the loading, unloading, transportation, and delivery of components to the DMRC’s store.
- Fastening System: The fastening system 336, approved by the Railway Board, will be integral to the project. The system is known for its reliability in rail projects involving sharp curves, where maintaining track stability is critical.
Check Rail Arrangement Details:
- Clearance Adjustment: Check rails will allow for an adjustable clearance up to 10 mm, offering flexibility in operation and maintenance.
- Machined Ends: Each rail end will be machined for a minimum clearance of 62 mm, ensuring smooth transitions.
- Height Advantage: All check rails will be installed 25 mm higher than the running rails for added protection on curves.
- Max Speed Support: The system will accommodate a maximum permissible design speed of 90 km/h on the main line.
- Base Plates and Components: Common casted base plates and fastening system components will be supplied at 600mm intervals for maximum track stability.
Conclusion:
This contract marks a significant milestone in the development of the Mumbai Metro Line 6. Vossloh Cogifer’s expertise will enhance track safety and longevity, particularly on sharp curves.
