A major milestone was achieved at Kapurbawadi Interchange Station of Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali) with the successful erection of four 100-tonne U-girders. Completed in 8 hours amidst heavy traffic at Ghodbunder Road, the station will facilitate seamless connectivity for Metro Lines 4 and 5, ensuring efficient passenger flow.

Major Milestone at Kapurbawadi Station:

On December 14, 2024, a significant achievement was recorded at Kapurbawadi Interchange Station of Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali). The first four U-girders, each weighing approximately 100 tonnes, were successfully erected on the station’s central grid (G5-G6). This critical operation began at 11 PM and concluded smoothly by 7 AM the next morning.

Strategic Importance of Kapurbawadi Station:

Located at Tatvagyan Vidyapith Junction, Kapurbawadi is a 4-track interchange station where Metro Lines 4 and 5 merge. Given its design to accommodate heavy passenger loads, the station spans a double width of about 40 meters, making it a crucial junction for efficient metro connectivity in the region.

Seamless Execution Amidst Challenges:

Despite the complexities of constructing a wide station in a high-traffic zone like Ghodbunder Road, the task was completed within a tight 8-hour window. The successful operation was carried out with the active support of DCP Traffic Thane. Post-launching, traffic flow was promptly restored, ensuring minimal disruption for commuters.

Conclusion:

The successful erection of U-girders at Kapurbawadi Interchange Station marks a significant step in Mumbai Metro Line 4’s development. With its strategic design for merging Lines 4 and 5, this station will play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity and improving passenger flow across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
