The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project achieved another milestone with the completion of its 5th Pre-stressed Concrete (PSC) bridge. Spanning 260 meters over National Expressway-4 near Kosamba, Gujarat, the bridge was constructed using the Balanced Cantilever Method. This vital infrastructure links Surat and Bharuch stations, ensuring seamless connectivity along the high-speed corridor.
Introduction:
The bridge, which crosses the under-construction National Expressway-4 that connects Delhi and Mumbai via Rajasthan and Gujarat, plays a crucial role in the high-speed rail alignment. It is strategically positioned between Surat and Bharuch Bullet Train stations, contributing to uninterrupted high-speed rail operations in the future.
Innovative Construction Approach:
- The bridge features a total of 104 precast segments and consists of four spans configured as 50m + 80m + 80m + 50m.
- Built using the Balanced Cantilever Method, this technique is particularly suited for larger spans, offering structural efficiency and stability.
- Given its location over a busy expressway, the construction was meticulously planned to ensure the highest safety standards for both workers and vehicular traffic.
- The project team implemented strategic measures to minimize disruptions while maintaining smooth traffic flow.
Strengthening High-Speed Rail Connectivity:
With the completion of this bridge, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project continues to make steady progress. The new infrastructure enhances connectivity between key stations and strengthens India’s ambition of creating a world-class high-speed rail network.
