The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is making significant strides, with rail welding underway on the viaduct in Gujarat. The welding process utilizes state-of-the-art fusion welding (FBW) machines to join 25-meter-long Japanese rails into 200-meter-long panels. To date, 298 panels covering approximately 60 km of track have been completed.
The welding process is meticulously executed to ensure track safety and passenger comfort:
- Rail ends undergo grinding and surface preparation to ensure a clean joining surface.
- Rails are aligned and joined using flash butt welding technology.
- Welds are inspected with magnetic particles and ultrasonic testing for flaw detection.
- Special rail tread measuring equipment ensures perfect alignment.
- Once welded, these 200-meter-long panels are laid on temporary tracks using specialized rail feeder cars.
Dedicated Track Construction Facilities:
To streamline operations, four dedicated Track Construction Bases (TCBs) have been established between Surat-Bilimora and Vadodara-Anand. These bases handle rail slabs, machinery, and other equipment. Mechanized processes, employing advanced Japanese technology, are used throughout the construction, ensuring precision and efficiency.
Track Slab Manufacturing:
Dedicated facilities in Kim (near Surat) and Anand manufacture track slabs using cutting-edge technology. Over 23,000 slabs, equating to 118 track km, have been produced so far, ensuring a steady supply for track installation.
World-Class Training for Engineers:
To meet the demands of this high-speed project, nearly 1,000 engineers, technicians, and work leaders are undergoing extensive training and certification. Conducted under the guidance of Japanese experts, these programs equip personnel with the necessary skills for track installation and maintenance.
