Mumbai’s metro network is set for a major expansion with MMRDA’s Rs. 10,970 crore budget for FY 2025–26. Under the leadership of Maharashtra’s top ministers, six major metro lines got funded and four new projects are going to start to reduce congestion and enhance urban mobility across MMR.
Budget Presentation & Leadership Support:
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde, unveiled its budget for FY 2025–26. The budget was presented by MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, and was officially approved during the high-level meeting.
Key Focus – Urban Transit Development:
Aimed at creating a world-class metro network in Mumbai, the budget prioritizes extensions of current metro lines and the introduction of new corridors. With a total allocation nearly worth Rs. 10,970 crore, the goal is to promote balanced urban development, reduce travel time, and decongest road traffic.

Fund Allocation for Major Metro Projects:
- Metro Line 2B (DN Nagar – Mandale): Rs. 2,155.80 Cr
- Metro Line 4 (Wadala – Ghatkopar – Mulund – Thane – Kasarvadavali): Rs. 3,247.51 Cr
- Metro Line 5 (Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan): Rs. 1,579.99 Cr
- Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar – Kanjurmarg): Rs. 1,303.40 Cr
- Metro Line 9 & 7A (Dahisar – Mira–Bhayandar & Andheri – CSMIA): Rs. 1,182.93 Cr
- Metro Line 12 (Kalyan – Taloja): Rs. 1,500.00 Cr
New Metro Projects to Begin in FY 2025–26:
- Extension of Line 5: Durgadi (Kalyan) to Ulhasnagar
- Metro Line 10: Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road)
- Metro Line 13: Shivaji Chowk to Virar
- Metro Line 14: Kanjurmarg to Badlapur
