MMRC, MD, Ms. Ashwini Bhide reviews construction work of Mumbai Metro Line 3 project

The Mumbai Metro project construction work progressing at a rapid pace, recently Ms. Ashwini Bhide, MD, MMRC reviewed the remaining construction work at MIDC and Aarey Depot, emphasising the push towards timely completion of these key infrastructure sites.

Ms. Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRC), conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing works at MIDC, Aarey Depot, and Vidyanagri Metro Station. She was joined by Mr. Subodh Gupta, Director of Projects, Mr. Rajeev, Director of Systems, and other senior MMRC officials. Their visit highlighted the collective focus on ensuring timely completion and maintaining the highest standards across these critical segments of the Mumbai Metro project.

Recent Progress Update:

  • Total 99% construction of depot work has been completed.
  • Operations Control Centre (OCC) cum administrative building, maintenance workshop, heavy wash, auto wash, pit wheel lathe, PEB sheds, tracks, shunting neck, systems works are completed and ready for operations.

Importance of Car Depot:

  • The car depot is a crucial nerve centre of any Metro line.
  • Besides the day-to-day maintenance, the car depot is used for preventive, corrective and also major maintenance activities.
  • These facilities ensure proper functioning of the rolling stock.
  • These are critical aspects for the comfortable, speedy and safe journey of commuters every day.
  • There are Stabling Lines, wheel profiling facilities, test tracks to run safety checks on trains and other infrastructure related to passenger safety, comfort and maintenance of other infrastructure of Line 3.
  • It will also house the Operation Control Centre (OCC).

Background:

  • MML-3 project – 33.5Km long corridor running along Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ, envisages to decongest the traffic situation in Greater Mumbai.
  • Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) is the nodal agency responsible for the implementation of Mumbai Metro Line–3 (MML-3) project.
  • It has been constituted as a JV of the Govt. of India (GOI) and the Government of Maharashtra (GOM) on a 50:50 sharing basis.
  • With full-scale operations of MML-3, the city would witness significant reduction in traffic volumes and the local transit facility would get a boost.
  • Upon completion, this fully underground corridor with 27 stations would connect Six business districts, 30 educational institutes, 30 recreational facilities and domestic as well as international airport terminals.
  • It will have five interchange points for suburban railway and one each for Monorail and ‘Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar’ Metro-1.
