Maha Metro and ADB sign $200 million agreement for Nagpur Metro Phase-II expansion

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Maha Metro, and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed an MoU for a $200 million (INR 1,530 crore) loan to fund Phase-II of Nagpur Metro. The 43.8 km extension across four routes will connect satellite towns, benefiting over 10 lakh residents and boosting regional connectivity.

Project Details:

Nagpur Metro Phase-II will extend the existing network by 43.8 km with the following four corridors:

  • Khapri – MIDC ESR: 18.5 km
  • Automotive Square – Kanhan River: 13 km
  • Prajapati Nagar – Transport Nagar: 5.6 km
  • Lokmanya Nagar – Hingna: 6.7 km

These extensions aim to improve connectivity within Nagpur and its satellite cities.

Socio-Economic Impact:

Phase-II will serve over 10 lakh residents from surrounding towns like Kamptee, Hingna, Butibori, and Kapsi, offering a faster and more efficient commuting option. Key benefits include:

  • Kanhan Route: Serving thousands of commuters from Kamptee, including students and workers traveling to Nagpur.
  • Industrial Estates: Enhancing access to major industrial hubs like Butibori and Kapsi, benefiting over 50,000 employees in 750 units.
  • Regional Development: Supporting economic growth in rapidly developing towns like Hingna and Kapsi.
