Khurda-Balangir rail line achieves tunnel breakthrough between Buguda and Baniguchha stations

A milestone in engineering excellence, Tunnel T3 between Buguda and Baniguchha stations on the Khurda-Balangir rail line achieves a critical breakthrough. Spanning 2.6 km with a 2-degree curve, this tunnel showcases innovative construction in challenging terrains, boosting efforts to connect Odisha’s coastal and western regions and drive socio-economic development.

The tunnel, constructed using advanced excavation methods and innovative technologies, overcomes the tough hilly terrain of the Mile Khunt region. It is poised to become a key link connecting Odisha’s coastal and western areas, addressing a critical gap in the state’s rail infrastructure.

Project Significance:

The Khurda-Balangir Rail Line, a priority project of the Ministry of Railways, aims to enhance connectivity and accelerate economic growth in Odisha. With 183 km of the 301 km line already operational, the project progresses rapidly, with 106 kilometers from Khurda Road to Daspalla and 77 kilometers from Balangir to Jharmunda have been commissioned. Additionally, the 16.27-kilometer stretch from Jharmunda to Boudh is also completed.

Progress and Challenges:

The project has surmounted significant challenges, including land acquisition, forest clearance, and difficult geological conditions. Despite these obstacles, consistent advancements demonstrate the commitment to timely delivery and transformative impact.
