Kernex Microsystems India Ltd. has secured a ₹2,041.40 crore order from Chittaranjan Locomotive Works for supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning 2,500 on-board KAVACH systems. Scope of the Project:
The contract involves the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 2,500 sets of on-board KAVACH equipment. KAVACH, an advanced train collision avoidance system, ensures enhanced safety and operational efficiency in railway networks. The implementation of KAVACH systems is a critical step in Indian Railways’ drive toward integrating advanced safety technologies across its locomotives. With this order, Kernex Microsystems will play a pivotal role in strengthening rail safety infrastructure.
What is Kavach:
- KAVACH is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system by Indian Railways.
- It is a highly technology intensive system, which requires safety certification of the highest order.
- This was adopted as a National ATP system by the Ministry of Railways in July 2020.
- Implementation of KAVACH on the Indian Railways network is one of the priority areas of Indian Railways.
Kavach-Salient Features:
- Automatic application brakes if the loco pilot fails to do so.
- Displays line-side signal in drivers cab.
- Radio based continuous update of Movement authority.
- Auto whistling at LC gates.
- Collision avoidance by direct loco to loco communication.
