Kanpur Metro update: AFC gate and TVS installation progressing at a steady pace

Kanpur Metro progresses swiftly, with AFC gates installed at four stations and the Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) completed in five underground stations from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central, enhancing safety. Meanwhile, Agra Metro achieved a milestone as TBM 3 broke through at Agra College Station, a vital future connectivity hub.

Progress in Kanpur Metro Underground Stations:

  • Fast-paced finishing and system installation works are underway at five underground stations.
  • Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates have been installed at four stations.
  • Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) installation is complete, ensuring air flow and safety in emergencies.
  • Corridor 1 runs from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta.

Chunniganj Station: Chunniganj, home to an existing intercity bus terminal, serves as a key transit hub and marks the first underground station on the IIT Kanpur to Naubasta Corridor, seamlessly connecting commuters with enhanced multi-modal transport options.

Kanpur Central: Kanpur Central Metro Station, an underground facility, seamlessly integrates with the bustling Kanpur Central Railway Station, which serves thousands of daily passengers traveling across the region. Additionally, the Ghantaghar side functions as a vital hub for Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) and Public Transport (PT) interchanges, enhancing connectivity and commuter convenience.

Agra Metro Update: Agra Metro’s TBM 3 has achieved a significant breakthrough at Agra College, marking a major milestone in the project. The underground station, being constructed using the cut-and-cover method in the open grounds of Agra College, is designed to enhance connectivity for commuters. This station will serve as a critical interchange with the proposed elevated Agra College station on Corridor-2, which links Agra Cantt. to Kalindi Vihar, strengthening the city’s public transport infrastructure and providing seamless travel options.

Conclusion:

The Kanpur Metro is rapidly progressing towards operational readiness, with key safety systems installed and integration at vital locations. Meanwhile, Agra Metro’s TBM breakthrough at Agra College marks another milestone in urban transit development. Both projects reflect transformative strides in improving connectivity and enhancing public transport infrastructure.
