Kanpur Metro: Tunnel construction set to begin on 4.10 km Rawatpur-Double Pulia underground stretch

The Kanpur Metro project advances as tunnel construction is set to begin on the 4.10 km ‘downline’ of the Rawatpur-Double Pulia underground section under Corridor-2 (CSA–Barra-8). The sixth Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) has been successfully lowered at Rawatpur, marking a crucial step in expanding urban connectivity and enhancing public transport efficiency.


Kanpur Metro’s Underground Expansion Moves Forward:

  • Corridor-2 Overview, Enhancing Urban Mobility: Spanning 8.6 kilometers, Corridor-2 of Kanpur Metro features 3.977 kilometers of elevated track, a transition ramp, and 4.623 kilometers underground. The corridor will include nine stations—four underground and five elevated—significantly improving connectivity across Kanpur’s key regions.
  • Alignment Details, Key Connectivity Points: The alignment begins at Agriculture University, extending south along VIP Road and passing through critical locations such as the UPSRTC workshop, Mathura-Kanpur railway tracks, and R.S. Puram. The route culminates at Rawatpur, a pivotal integration hub that will facilitate future northward extensions and seamless connectivity with Corridor-1.
