Kanpur Metro successfully conducts trial runs from Motijheel to Central station

The Kanpur Metro train successfully completed its maiden journey to Kanpur Central Station, a significant milestone for the city’s upcoming transit system. The test run, conducted in the presence of Managing Director Shri Sushil Kumar, covered both lines of Corridor-1, marking a crucial step towards operationalization.


Corridor-1 Overview:

Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro spans about 24 kilometres, extending from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta. The corridor is a combination of elevated and underground sections, offering improved connectivity to several key residential and commercial areas in the city. Upon completion, it will drastically reduce travel time and ease congestion on the city’s roads.

TBM Launched from Transport Nagar:

The ‘Azad’ TBM has been launched from Transport Nagar station on the ‘up-line’ as part of TBM Corridor-1. This marks the beginning of tunnel construction on the remaining 1.80 km stretch towards Kanpur Central, passing through Jharkati. This significant development will facilitate smoother and more efficient transportation between these key locations.

Installation of Third Rail System Completed till Kanpur Central:

The Kanpur Metro, which utilizes a 750-volt DC third rail system instead of overhead electric lines (OHE), has now completed the installation of the third rail along the track leading to Kanpur Central. This crucial step signifies a significant advancement in the project’s progress.
