All platforms for stations along the 5 km Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section of the Kanpur Metro are complete. Construction of the roof and technical rooms is advancing steadily. MD Shri Sushil Kumar recently conducted a review of the ongoing construction to assess the progress.
Recent Progress of Kanpur Metro:
- TBM ‘Vidyarthi’ Begins Its Final Journey: The Kanpur Metro’s Corridor-1 sees a major milestone as Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) ‘Vidyarthi’ begins its final 2.4 km tunnelling journey from Swadeshi Cotton Mill. This development, along with TBM ‘Azad’ making progress on the up-line, marks significant progress toward connecting IIT Kanpur to Naubasta.
- Topographical Surveys Contract Awarded: UPMRC has awarded S.S. Solution a ₹18.35 lakh contract for topographical surveys, crucial for the continued planning of the Kanpur Metro project. This 12-month survey contract will support the project across multiple designated locations in Kanpur.
- Track Construction Underway: Track construction in the ‘downline’ tunnel between Kanpur Central Station and Nayaganj has commenced. The 1250-metre stretch is currently seeing active rail laying and track welding, with UPMRC’s MD, Shri Sushil Kumar, overseeing progress on the underground station works.
- Underground Stretch Progress: The last 2.4 km underground stretch is advancing, with TBM ‘Azad’ completing its first drive on the up-line. Additionally, the final U-girder for Corridor-1 has been installed, signifying the completion of all precast structures for the metro.
- New Developments at Rawatpur Station: Construction has started on the mid-slab of the Rawatpur underground station, part of Corridor-2, which connects Agriculture University to Barra-8. This underscores the fast pace of work aimed at enhancing Kanpur’s urban mobility.
Conclusion:
With platforms now ready and further work progressing swiftly, the Baradevi-Naubasta section of the Kanpur Metro is moving closer to completion. MD Shri Sushil Kumar’s review highlights the commitment to timely delivery and ensures the project remains on track for its next milestones.
