Kanpur Metro achieves key milestone with dual line track completion and station upgrades

The Kanpur Metro project marks another milestone with the completion of ‘up-line’ and ‘down-line’ track construction between IIT and Kanpur Central. MD Shri Sushil Kumar reviewed station progress on Corridors 1 and 2, as escalator installations at five stations, aligned with ‘Make in India,’ enhance accessibility and sustainability.

Track Construction Milestone:

  • Kanpur Metro has successfully completed the construction of tracks on both the ‘up-line’ and ‘down-line’ from IIT to Kanpur Central.
  • With this achievement, the train tracks are now fully operational across both lines, signifying significant progress in the city’s metro development.

Progress on Station Development:

  • MD Shri Sushil Kumar conducted a thorough review of the construction progress at various stations along Corridor 1 and Corridor 2.
  • The inspection highlights the Metro’s commitment to ensuring timely completion and operational readiness.

Corridor Overview:

Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro spans about 24 kilometres, extending from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta. The corridor is a combination of elevated and underground sections, offering improved connectivity to several key residential and commercial areas in the city. Upon completion, it will drastically reduce travel time and ease congestion on the city’s roads.

Corridor-2 spans approximately 8.6 kilometres, with 3.977 kilometres elevated and a transition ramp connecting elevated and underground sections. The corridor will feature nine stations—four underground and five elevated—to improve connectivity across Kanpur.

Accessibility and Sustainability Enhancements:

  • As part of station upgrades, Kanpur Metro has installed escalators at five stations spanning from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central. Lift installations at these stations are also underway.
  • The escalators, developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, prioritize safety and energy efficiency, reflecting the project’s emphasis on sustainability and innovation.

Conclusion:

With the dual line track completion and station upgrades incorporating advanced features, Kanpur Metro is steadily advancing towards enhanced urban mobility. The inclusion of energy-efficient and locally manufactured escalators showcases the project’s commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and the Make in India campaign.
