K-RIDE assigns civil contract to PJB Engineers for Bengaluru Suburban Rail Corridor-1A

K-RIDE has awarded a contract worth over Rs. 68 crore to PJB Engineers Pvt. Ltd. for part construction of the elevated viaduct between KSR Bengaluru and Yelahanka under Corridor-1A of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project. The project consists of foundational works, design, and associated civil infrastructure for a 1.61 km stretch.


Introduction:

In a significant advancement under the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP), K-RIDE (Rail Infrastructure Development Company [Karnataka] Limited) has awarded a civil construction contract to PJB Engineers Private Limited. This order includes the design and construction of foundational works and an elevated viaduct spanning approximately 1.61 km between KSR Bengaluru City and Yelahanka, falling under Corridor-1A of the BSRP.

Project Details:

  • Package- C1A (Part Work)
  • Location- KSR Bengaluru to Yelahanka (Chainage km 8/427 to km 10/038)
  • Corridor- 1A of BSRP
  • Total Contract Value- Rs. 68.17 Crores
  • Length of Section- 1.61 km
  • Execution Type- Design and Build

This package is a part of the 17.630 km long Corridor-1A, and while the full corridor is under phased development, this contract specifically covers early construction activities including piers, substructures, foundations, and other preparatory civil works.

Scope of Work:

  • PJB Engineers will undertake the following responsibilities-
    • Design and construction of an elevated viaduct with:
    • Pile foundations/Open foundations
    • Piers, pier caps, and precast pier arms
    • Launching and erection of viaduct structures
  • Design and implementation of a double line broad-gauge track system, with provisions for-
    • 25 kV AC overhead electrification (OHE)
    • End evacuation safety measures
  • Associated works, including-
    • Road widening
    • Construction of service roads
    • Side drains and drainage solutions
    • Barricading and site safety systems
    • Casting yard development
    • Site office and installation of necessary equipment
    • Provisioning of on-site personnel and resources

Key Technical Features:

  • The viaduct section starts at chainage 8/427 and ends at 10/038.
  • The design also incorporates transitional piers which will support viaducts from other corridors as well.
  • Detailed General Arrangement Drawings (GADs) have been provided with the tender and will be integral to the construction plan.

Significance for BSRP:

This contract is another step forward for BSRP, which aims to revolutionize urban mobility in Bengaluru through dedicated suburban rail infrastructure. Corridor-1A, once fully operational, will significantly improve connectivity between central and northern parts of the city.
