IRCON successfully completes traction substation works and electric locomotive trial runs for Northeast Frontier Railway

In North East Frontier Railway, IRCON has successfully finished four key electrification and traction substation works. Completion of traction substation commissioning and electric loco trials aims to accelerate green mobility, enhance train efficiency, and decrease carbon emissions, marking a crucial step towards a fully electrified and sustainable railway network.

Falimari Traction Substation & Transmission Line Commissioned:

IRCON has completed the construction and commissioning of the 132/25kV Falimari Traction Substation (TSS) along with a 132kV, 7.5 km transmission line from Dinhata Grid Substation. The work, including the extension of the bay, was successfully energized on 19th March 2025. This enables train operations on 25kV electric traction in the Alipurduar Division.

Nazira to Simaluguri Transmission Line Operational:

  • The 132kV transmission line from Nazira Grid Substation to the Simaluguri Railway Traction Substation was completed and commissioned by IRCON on 17th March 2025.
  • Back-charging was completed on 19th February. This will enhance electric traction-based operations along the Rajdhani route to Dibrugarh in the Tinsukia Division.

Electric Loco Trial between Agartala–Nichintpur Marks Electrification Success:

  • A successful electric locomotive trial between Agartala and Nichintpur was conducted on 19th March 2025, signifying the completion of all Overhead Equipment (OHE) works under Package 2 of the Railway Electrification project.
  • With 547 route km and 677 track km electrified, this project was executed in record time despite challenging terrain.

Fakiragram–Golakganj Section Trials Completed:

Electric loco trials were also completed on the Fakiragram–Golakganj stretch (45 route km / 50 track km) in the Alipurduar Division on 19th March 2025 at maximum sectional speed. This achievement will enable electric train operations in this section, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing dependence on diesel traction.

Conclusion:

With these major completions, IRCON reinforces its commitment to sustainable railway development. Electrification in the North East Frontier Railway will not only improve operational efficiency but also reduce environmental impact. These milestones are crucial steps toward achieving Indian Railways’ vision of complete electrification and green mobility across the network.
