Introduction:
In a major stride towards railway infrastructure development, IRCON has received a prestigious order from East Central railway for construction of railway bridge across Ganga river. The work has been awarded under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract model.
The ambitious Rs. 1,068.34 crore project includes the construction of a 4.090 km long rail bridge between Bikramshila and Katareah stations in Bihar. A double-line substructure and a single-line superstructure will be constructed, promoting the railway line development aimed at better regional connectivity and improved railway infrastructure.
Technical Highlights:
- Total Length: 4.090 km
- Design: Open Web Steel Girder
- Completion Period: 1,460 days (approx. 4 years)
- Type: Double-line substructure with single-line superstructure
- Configuration: 2 spans of 32.086 meters
33 spans of 122.00 meters
This modern infrastructure will be a blend of advanced engineering and regional strategic development, allowing smooth travel and freight movement between Bikramshila and Katareah stations. It strengthens the connectivity across the river Ganga.
Bridge to Boost Bihar’s Transportation Infrastructure:
The project is specifically given to IRCON because of its proven expertise in this field, it will accelerate transport infrastructure in Bihar. It will boost economic growth as the bridge will decongest various existing routes. This initiative will enable smooth passenger services and faster cargo movement, saving a lot of travel time.
IRCON’s decades of experience will allow a timely execution and precise construction. It has a way of working out the solutions even in challenging conditions. This project will work as another badge in IRCON’s court of armour, reinforcing its role in the transport infrastructure industry.
Mission Electrification: IRCON Completes Duliajan–New Tinsukia Work:
In a separate milestone, IRCON has successfully completed railway electrification work between Duliajan and New Tinsukia in the Tinsukia Division of Northeast Frontier Railway.
A trial run was also conducted between the regions on June 1, 2025. The trial run covers 20 route km and 29 track km with the maximum speed of the train.
This achievement is a major step towards the Indian Railway’s goal of achieving 100% Electrification. This ensures that a part of Tinsukia Division is ready for train journeys, enhancing efficiency, minimising carbon emissions and promoting the country’s sustainable goals.
IRCON’s team was appreciated for their efficiency and focus. The execution of this project is also poised to improve operations along critical freight and passenger routes, enhancing regional rail infrastructure.
Conclusion:
With the awarded contract of the Ganga rail bridge and the completion of electrification of the Duliajan–New Tinsukia stretch, IRCON made its name as the leader in delivering large-scale, strategic infrastructure. These accomplishments not only support Indian Railways’ modernization goals but also lay the foundation for improved regional mobility and economic growth.
