IRCON has completed the critical yard remodelling work at Jhalwara station under South East Central Railway. This project is a part of the prestigious Katangi Khurd-Jhalwara chord line and DN Grade Separator, the completion of the projects will reduce travel time of trains, improve operational efficiency. The line will bypass congested New Katni Junction and travel between Bilaspur and Singrauli.
Introduction:
In a key milestone, IRCON International Ltd. completed the yard remodelling works at Jhalwara station of South East Central Railway. This development is a part of the commissioning of the Katangi Khurd–Jhalwara chord line and the DN Grade Separator Line, accelerating the efficiency and flow of train operations in the region.
The project is a crucial part under the broader Katni–Singrauli section doubling initiative, covering 262 kilometers, and is designed to address the congestion problem, particularly at New Katni Junction (NKJ), a busy area in the network.
Key Benefits of the Project:
- Enhanced Punctuality- The trains can now bypass New Katni Junction when travelling from Bilaspur to Singrauli. Before trains have to use engine or brake van reversal, due to the new line the problem will be solved. It reduces travel time of the trains and thus will increase the punctuality.
- Operational Efficiency- Katni–Singrauli section has always been congested, the problem being solved now with the yard modelling completed in the Jhalwara. It decongest the area, enhance freight and passenger train movement, and accelerate the connectivity around the area.
- Technical Upgrades- The number of route options increased from 123 to 189 after the remodeling work. It consists of the insertion of 13 additional turnouts, newly built Chord Lines, and a Grade Separator Line.Advanced Multi Section Digital Axle Counter Track Circuits (MSDAC TCs) have been implemented, allowing higher safety and automated train detection, crucial for operational accuracy.
Strategic Significance:
The development has worked well for the Indian Railway’s goal to improve rail network, enhance safety, and better passenger and freight services. Bilaspur–Singrauli–Katni rail corridor is now an example of rail advancement due to the completion of the Jhalwara’s yard remodelling.
Additionally, the project shows IRCON’s expertise in complex railway infrastructure, further strengthening its position as a vital player in India’s rail development journey. The use of modern track management systems like MSDAC highlights a step toward intelligent railway systems for better operational control and monitoring.
Conclusion:
The completion of the Jhalwara yard remodelling is a major step toward a more efficient, punctual, and high-capacity rail network in central India. With minimised congestion and advanced signalling, IRCON’s dedication promises long-term results for both freight logistics and passenger movement across one of the country’s critical railway corridors.
