Ircon International Ltd. has bagged a contract worth over Rs. 51.6 crore from North Western Railway for deploying Remote Diagnostic & Predictive Maintenance Systems across significant rail sections in Jaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, and Jodhpur Divisions. The contract will be executed within 24 months and aims to accelerate asset performance and safety.
Introduction:
North Western Railway awarded a significant contract worth Rs. 51.6 crore to Ircon. The contract includes the provision of advanced Remote Diagnostic and Predictive Maintenance Systems across vital electrified sections within four major divisions of the zone.
Scope of Work:
The awarded contract covers the installation and commissioning of monitoring systems in the following sections of the four divisions-
- RE–MD Section of Jaipur Division
- MD–PNU Section of Ajmer Division
- RE–BTI Section of Bikaner Division
- MTD–LUNI Section of Jodhpur Division
These sections are part of the electrified network and play a crucial role in passenger and freight movement across Rajasthan.
Contract Value and Timeline:
- Total Contract Amount: Rs. 51,61,72,418.81
- Execution Period: 24 months from the date of issue of the Letter of Acceptance (LOA)
The project involves end-to-end deployment including supply, installation, integration, and commissioning of the systems across designated sections.
Importance of Remote Diagnostics in Indian Railways:
Remote Diagnostic and Predictive Maintenance Systems are vital to modern railway infrastructure. These technologies enable:
- Real-time monitoring of railway assets
- Early detection of faults or performance degradation
- Optimized maintenance schedules to minimise downtime
- Improve safety for both rolling stock and infrastructure
- Cost-effective operations through data-driven decision-making
By adopting such technologies, Indian Railways will accelerate toward smarter, more resilient, and smooth operations.
About the Divisions Involved:
Jaipur Division:
Formed through the merger of BB&CI, Jaipur State Railways, and Rajputana Malwa Railway, Jaipur Division plays a pivotal role in North Western Railway’s operations. Serving Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, it is a passenger-heavy division, with 84.92% revenue from passenger traffic.
- 128 stations | 146 trains daily
- Jaipur station handles 35,000 passengers per day
The implementation of the predictive system in this division is expected to improve service reliability and passenger experience.
Ajmer Division:
Covering parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat, Ajmer Division is known for its cement loading operations, serving several cement plants in the region.
- 130 stations | 36 trains
Given the high volume of freight and pilgrimage traffic, predictive maintenance in this division will play a crucial role in safety and efficiency.
Bikaner Division:
Established in 1924, Bikaner Division handles both freight and passenger traffic, serving Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.
- 198 stations | 142 trains
Automated diagnostics and predictive tools are set to optimise asset performance, especially in freight-heavy zones.
Jodhpur Division:
One of the oldest divisions (est. 1882), Jodhpur covers semi-urban and sensitive regions like Jaisalmer and Barmer.
- 144 stations | 92 trains
The integration of remote diagnostic systems is expected to provide much-needed robustness to operations in geographically challenging areas.
Conclusion:
This contract underscores Indian Railways’s aim to modernize maintenance practices through smart technology adoption. With Ircon’s proven expertise, the implementation is expected to enhance operational reliability and minimise unplanned downtimes across key routes in the North Western Railway zone, setting a record for future railway modernization projects.
