IRCON has marked significant progress in its Mission 100% Electrification with successful electric loco trials in the North East Frontier Railway and the energization of the 132/25 KV Dibrugarh Traction Substation. These achievements will enhance operational efficiency, enable 25kV electric traction, and contribute to a greener, more sustainable railway network.
Electric Loco Trial Between New Cooch Behar and Bamanhat:
On January 31, 2025, IRCON successfully conducted an electric loco trial between New Cooch Behar Junction and Bamanhat in the Alipurduar Division of North East Frontier Railway. The trial covered 50 Route KM (56 Track KM) at maximum sectional speed, marking a major step toward full electrification. With this initiative, train operations will transition to 25kV electric traction, improving efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
Energization of Dibrugarh Traction Substation and Transmission Line:
In another major development, IRCON energized the 132/25 KV Dibrugarh Traction Substation in the Tinsukia Division on January 30, 2025. This milestone was achieved alongside the commissioning of a 9 km long 132kV Transmission Line, strengthening the power supply infrastructure crucial for railway electrification. This project aligns with the broader goal of establishing an eco-friendly and energy-efficient railway network.
Successful Loco Trial Between Mariani, Simlaguri, Moranhat, and Dibrugarh:
On the same day, IRCON successfully conducted an electric loco trial across Mariani – Simlaguri – Moranhat – Dibrugarh (150 Route KM & 192 Track KM) in the Tinsukia Division. This trial, conducted at maximum sectional speed, ensures the seamless transition of trains to electric traction, boosting efficiency while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Conclusion:
With these milestones, IRCON continues to accelerate its Mission 100% Electrification, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient Indian Railways. The successful trials and infrastructure upgrades will not only enhance operational reliability but also contribute to a greener future by significantly cutting down carbon emissions.
