Indore Metro: MD Shri S. K. Chaitanya conducts weekly review and on-site inspection of priority corridor

Shri S. Krishna Chaitanya, IAS, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, conducted a review meeting at the Indore Metro office and inspected the entire Priority Corridor from Gandhi Nagar to Malviya Nagar intersection. He emphasised timely completion and encouraged all stakeholders to contribute towards achieving the metro project goals.

Every week, the Managing Director will take information about the updated progress and achievements against the target with all the stakeholders in Indore Metro. He appealed to all the officials of the metro project, representatives of the General Consultant and contractors to give their best contribution to get the metro project off the ground so that metro facilities can be provided to the common people as soon as possible.

Key Points of the Inspection:

  • The MD inspected 16 stations along the 17 km stretch from Gandhinagar to Malviya Nagar intersection. This marked his second visit to Indore, and he committed to weekly visits to review and monitor the construction progress closely.
  • During the inspection, he engaged in detailed discussions with officials from various Metro departments and project contractors, including those responsible for civil works (stations, depot, and viaduct) and systems (rolling stock, signalling, traction, telecom, etc.), as well as the General Consultant.
  • The discussions focused on the preparations and ongoing efforts along the Priority Corridor. He emphasised that the commercial operation of the Super Priority Corridor (Gandhi Nagar to SC-03) is planned for this year. He also directed that the entire 17 km Priority Corridor, including all related processes, must be completed on schedule by next year.

Scope of Work for the Contractor:

  • Scope of ECS Design: The detailed design of the Environment Control System (ECS) includes the selection and validation of equipment, ensuring reliable and efficient performance in underground stations. This involves optimising space requirements within service ducts and adopting internationally proven technologies.
  • ECS Components and Responsibilities: The DDC is responsible for designing the complete ECS, including air and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, ECS fans, ducts, and control systems. The design must meet performance criteria and integrate seamlessly with other systems in the metro stations.
  • Key ECS Functions: The ECS provides fresh air, removes body heat and harmful gases, manages humidity, and controls heat generated by train equipment and station facilities. It also handles smoke management and ventilation during emergencies.
  • Detailed VAC System Design: The Ventilation and Air Conditioning (VAC) system covers station air conditioning, ventilation, smoke extraction, and tunnel ventilation. It includes the design of refrigeration units, air distribution, and pressurisation systems to ensure safe and comfortable conditions for passengers and staff.
  • Integration with Other Systems: The ECS design includes interfacing with fire detection, BAS, SCADA, and operational control systems. It ensures comprehensive control and monitoring, enhancing energy efficiency and operational reliability across all metro stations and tunnels.

Conclusion:

The Managing Director reaffirmed his commitment to monitor the project’s progress weekly and urged all contractors and consultants to work in unison. With commercial operations on the Super Priority Corridor slated for this year, Shri Chaitanya stressed the importance of completing the 17 km stretch of the Priority Corridor by next year.
