Government Advances Regional Connectivity: NCRPB’s RRTS plan gains momentum with prioritised corridors for 2032

As urban populations continue to grow, the demand for efficient transportation is becoming increasingly urgent. To address this, the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) has developed the ‘Functional Plan on Transport for NCR-2032,’ identifying eight Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS) aimed at improving connectivity and streamlining transit across the National Capital Region.

More Details:

During the current Parliament session, the Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, provided valuable insights in the Lok Sabha on the government’s strategic plans to address and transform the transportation needs of the rapidly growing urban population.

On this matter, National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) prepared a ‘Functional Plan on Transport for NCR-2032’ which identified eight Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors to connect various important towns of NCR with semi-high speed rail based commuter transit system in order to improve rail based connectivity in NCR, namely:

  • Delhi-Gurugram-Rewari-Alwar
  • Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut
  • Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat
  • Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabgarh-Palwal
  • Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Rohtak
  • Delhi-Shahdara-Baraut
  • Ghaziabad-Khurja and
  • Ghaziabad-Hapur

Task Force appointed by the erstwhile NITI Ayog had prioritised following three RRTS corridors for implementation:

  • Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut
  • Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar
  • Delhi-Panipat

Out of the above three corridors, 82.15 Km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor has already been sanctioned by the Central Government in March, 2019.

Conclusion:

These prioritised RRTS corridors mark a crucial move towards improving regional connectivity and meeting the transportation needs of the expanding urban population in the National Capital Region. The government’s commitment to this initiative will enhance transit efficiency, reduce travel times, and support economic growth in the NCR.
