DMRC’s 2024 milestones highlight innovations in sustainable urban transport, customer-centric advancements, and Phase-IV construction achievements. Key initiatives include Carbon Neutral certifications, seamless ticketing systems, international flight check-ins, and groundbreaking tunnel completions. Collaborative MoUs and record-breaking passenger journeys underscore DMRC’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and commuter experience across Delhi-NCR and beyond.
The Following are the Main Highlights for the Year 2024:
05th January: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) incorporated its ticketing services into the ‘One Delhi’ mobile application, offering commuters the ease of planning uninterrupted journeys that seamlessly combine both the Metro and Delhi’s city bus services. This integration has been done in collaboration with IIIT-D (Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi) which manages the ‘One Delhi’ app for the Delhi Government.
07th January: The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu visited the Delhi Metro system. During her journey, she also interacted with some school children. Smt. Murmu is the second serving President of India to travel by the Delhi Metro. DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Vikas Kumar accompanied the Hon’ble President on the journey. The President travelled on the system using an NCMC RuPay card.
21st February: DMRC unveiled its new integrated Operation Control Centre (OCC) at Metro Bhawan. This new OCC is managing operations of the Red Line and Yellow Line of the existing network. It will also oversee train movement on the upcoming corridors/lines of Phase IV.
04th March: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved two new corridors of Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project which will further improve the Metro connectivity in the national capital. The two corridors are: Inderlok – Indraprastha (12.377 km) and Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block (8.385 km).
07th March: DMRC launched an indigenously developed custom-made software to streamline and smoothen its customer grievance management mechanism. The software called ‘Public Complaints Management System’ (PGMS) will help in increasing the speed, accuracy and accessibility of the complaints management infrastructure already in place.
07th April: The Transport Strategy Centre (TSC), London, which manages the COMET benchmarking group, conducted the “11th edition of Online Customer Satisfaction Survey from 8th April (Monday) to 5th May, 2024 (Sunday). The main objective of the survey was to know what the commuters think about various aspects of Metro Operations including feedback/ suggestions on improving the quality of service.
03rd May: DMRC celebrated its 30th Foundation Day today, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The celebration was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Sh. Anurag Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs & Chairman of DMRC, Shri Naresh Kumar, Chief Secretary of the Government of NCT of Delhi, Paramvir Chakra Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav and Dr. Vikas Kumar, the Managing Director of DMRC.
05th June: DMRC Headquarters at Metro Bhawan, achieved Carbon Neutral certification, further solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable urban transportation. This milestone follows the earlier certification of DMRC’s staff quarters in Sector-50, Noida, as Carbon Neutral.
07th June: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on upcoming metro rail projects in India and abroad. The MoU was officially signed by Dr. P.K Garg, Director (Business Development), DMRC and Shri Santosh Kumar Jha, Chairman and Managing Director, KRCL.
13th June: DMRC and Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate and jointly explore consultancy assignments in India and abroad in the field of Mass Rapid Transit System. The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, Director (Operations & Services), DMRC and Dr. Deepak Tripathi, Director (Technical), RITES in the presence of Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC and other senior officials.
04th July: DMRC and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate and jointly work as a Project Service Provider for Design, Construction and Consultancy Projects in India and Abroad. The MoU was officially signed by Dr. P.K. Garg, Director (Business Development) DMRC and Shri Rajesh Prasad, Director Operations, RVNL in the presence of other senior officials.
10th July: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), and Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS) joined hands to revolutionize seamless travel experience of the Main Line Railway and Metro Passengers in Delhi NCR area, thereby promoting ‘One India – One Ticket’ initiative of the Government of India by launching the “Beta Version” of Delhi Metro Rail QR Code –based ticket.
11th July: DMRC launched a digital QR ticketing system for Delhi Metro commuters in association with Amazon Pay. This innovative solution provides a quick, contactless, and hassle-free experience and allows the commuters to purchase mobile QR tickets on the go.
17th July: DMRC announced the introduction of international flights check-in facilities at New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium metro stations on the Airport Express Line. In collaboration with Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Air India, and Vistara Airlines, DMRC is extending this service to facilitate easier check-in for international passengers at these key metro stations in Delhi.
28th July: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was recognized with the prestigious “Global Water Tech Award, 2024” in the ‘Organization Category’ for its outstanding environmental initiatives. This award was presented by the Global Energy & Environment Foundation (GEEF) to DMRC for its relentless efforts in water conservation and efficient utilization of water resources in the city of Delhi.
21st August: DMRC achieved a major construction milestone in Phase 4 with the completion of a 865-meter-long underground tunnel between Chhatarpur and Chhatarpur Mandir Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor. It took place in the presence of Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, and Shri Kailash Gahlot, Hon’ble Transport Minister of GNCTD. Shri Naresh Kumar, Chief Secretary, GNCTD. Shri Ashish Kundra, Principal Secretary to LG, Shri Jaideep, OSD (UT), MoHUA and DMRC’s MD, Dr. Vikas Kumar and other senior officials.
21st August: DMRC and the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) took a significant step towards enhancing commuter convenience by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration aims to integrate the ticketing systems of DMRC and NCRTC, facilitating hassle-free travel for commuters across the Delhi-NCR region. The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD, DMRC and Shri Shalabh Goel, MD, NCRTC.
12th September: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) launched the Multiple Journey QR Ticket (MJQRT). Dr. Vikas Kumar MD DMRC launched this initiative as part of ‘Ease of Booking’ initiative. MJQRT simplifies travel with a single QR code, enhancing convenience and offering eco-friendly benefits.
18th September: DMRC successfully completed the first twin tunnels breakthrough under Phase-IV construction. The two tunnel boring machines (TBMs), Bhoomi and Srishti, emerged concurrently at Pulbangash Metro Station, marking the completion of the 3 km twin tunnels connecting Derawal Nagar to Pulbangash on the Janakpuri West – R K Ashram corridor (Magenta line Extension). The event was graced by the presence of Shri Dharmendra, Chief Secretary of Delhi and Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD, DMRC.
05th October: DMRC achieved a major construction milestone in Phase 4 with the completion of an underground tunnel between Chhatarpur and Chhatarpur Mandir Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor. A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) broke through at Chhatarpur Mandir Station after boring an 860-meter-long tunnel.
13th October: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Line -4 connecting Yamuna Bank with Vaishali in Ghaziabad has achieved Carbon Neutral certification, marking a significant milestone in DMRC‘s efforts towards providing sustainable urban transportation and commitment to combating climate change.
11th November: Delhi Metro customers can now book their Bike taxi rides from Delhi Metro’s official mobile app, DMRC Momentum (Delhi Sarthi 2.0) itself without the need to juggle between multiple apps. The people can avail two types of Bike taxis namely, SHERYDS- for women, by women and RYDR- for all commuters.
15th November: The first Metro train, comprising six coaches, procured by Delhi Metro for its Phase – 4 operations, reached Delhi, marking a significant milestone towards completing and operationalising the priority corridors of Delhi Metro Phase-4.
18th November: DMRC registered its highest passenger journeys with 78.67 lakh journeys being performed in the network.
20th November: DMRC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), to enable the sale of ASI monument tickets through DMRC’s ‘Momentum 2.0 Delhi Sarthi-सारथी’ mobile application. This initiative provides a single platform for the purchase of both ASI monument tickets and DMRC travel tickets.
04th December: DMRC achieved a significant construction milestone in Phase 4 with the completion of the longest underground tunnel between Tughlakabad Airforce Launching shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor of Phase-IV, boring a 2.65-kilometre -long tunnel.
