DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar received the prestigious IGBC Senior Fellowship at the 22nd Green Building Congress in Bengaluru. Recognized for his pioneering efforts, Dr. Kumar spearheaded initiatives like the world’s first MRTS Green Certification, setting benchmarks in sustainable metro infrastructure and advancing the green building movement across India.
Innovative Green Infrastructure Leadership:
Under Dr. Kumar’s leadership, DMRC collaborated with IGBC in 2014 to launch the world’s first green certification norms tailored for Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS). This initiative filled a critical gap in the green building sector, enabling metro systems like Kochi and Noida to adopt eco-friendly practices.
Achievements and Certifications:
- DMRC’s Phase 3 metro stations achieved Platinum certification under the IGBC MRTS Rating System.
- Other DMRC facilities, including depots, Receiving Substations (RSS), residential colonies, and Metro Bhawan, were certified as Green Buildings.
- Metro Bhawan and Metro Niketan have also been certified as ‘Carbon Neutral’ structures.
Future Green Initiatives:
DMRC plans to extend its green building efforts to the under-construction Phase 4, ensuring the sustainability legacy continues in future expansions.
Asia’s Largest Green Conference:
The Green Building Congress, organised by IGBC and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is Asia’s largest platform for discussions on sustainable built environments. Dr. Kumar’s recognition further highlights India’s leadership in green urban infrastructure.
Conclusion:
Dr. Vikas Kumar’s recognition as an IGBC Senior Fellow underscores DMRC’s pivotal role in promoting sustainable metro infrastructure. By pioneering green certification systems and achieving groundbreaking milestones in eco-friendly construction, DMRC continues to inspire a green revolution in Indian metros, ensuring a sustainable future for urban transit systems.
