Chennai Metro Phase-2: Trial runs and testing begin on corridor-4 stretch between Mullai Thottam and Porur Junction

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has started testing and trial runs between Mullai Thottam and Porur Junction Metro Stations under Phase-2 Corridor 4. The dynamic trials, led by Managing Director Shri M.A. Siddique marks a key milestone as CMRL moves closer to operational readiness for the public’s benefit.


Introduction:

As a noteworthy advancement, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has officially commenced testing and trial operations beyond Mullai Thottam up to Porur Junction Metro Station on 28th April 2025, under Corridor 4 of the Phase-2 expansion project.

Event Overview:

The event was graced by Shri M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Managing Director of CMRL, along with Directors and senior officials including Shri T. Archunan, Director (Projects); Shri Manoj Goyal, Director (Systems & Operations); Shri S. Krishnamoorthy, Director Finance, and HODs of CMRL; Shri A.R. Rajendran, Chief General Manager (RS, S&T); Shri S. Ashok Kumar, Chief General Manager (T&EC); Shri S. Ramasubbu, Advisor (O&RS) and other senior officials of General Consultant and Contractors. Their presence highlighted the importance of this achievement in the metro’s development timeline.

Significance of the Trials:

Shri M.A. Siddique emphasized that the extension of testing is a crucial milestone. These dynamic trials demonstrate CMRL’s commitment to expediting project completion and delivering enhanced connectivity to Chennai’s citizens in the shortest possible timeframe.

Details of the Section:

The viaduct stretch under testing spans approximately 10 kilometers, connecting Poonamalle Bypass Metro Station to Porur Junction Metro Station. The trials are being centrally coordinated through the Poonamalle Metro Depot, acting as the testing nerve center.

Next Steps:

CMRL plans to progressively conduct a series of tests and trials across Stage 1 of Corridor 4 to ensure the highest standards of passenger safety and comfort before commercial operations commence.
