An alumnus of IIT Madras with a Mechanical Engineering degree, M.Tech in Stress and Vibration Analysis, and ICWA qualification, Shri Ramanathan began his BHEL journey as an Engineer Trainee in 1988 at the High Pressure Boiler Plant, Tiruchirappalli, where he won the Best Engineer Trainee award in 1989.
Leadership and Career Growth:
- With 37 years of deep experience across engineering, design, R&D, operations, commercial functions, and finance, Shri Ramanathan has held key roles in BHEL’s major manufacturing units.
- Most recently, he served as Executive Director (OSD – E, R&D) and helmed the top three revenue-generating units at Tiruchirappalli, Ranipet, and Bhopal.

Notable for refining hydro turbine designs using advanced IT tools, Shri Ramanathan holds a turbine patent and has presented papers at national and international forums.
