Ahmedabad metro Phase-2 Progress Update: Narmada Main Canal bridge nearing completion

The eagerly anticipated bridge spanning the Narmada Main Canal for the Narendra Modi Stadium to Gandhinagar section of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-2 is rapidly nearing its culmination.

The cable-stayed bridge has a central span of 145 metres and end spans of 79 metres and two pylons of 28.1 metre height. Work of the pylons and 100 segments of the total 105 segments has been completed in record time and bridge work will be completed shortly following which laying of track and installation of third rail etc. will be completed. Train Trials are expected to start in March/April.

Insights into Phase-2:

Phase-2 of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project is a monumental endeavour encompassing a corridor stretching 26.91 kilometres, inclusive of extensions. This includes Corridor-1, spanning 22.838 kilometres from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir, and Corridor-2, covering 5.416 kilometres from GNLU to GIFT City.

Financial Backing:

The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited receives financial support from prestigious institutions such as Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KFW) for the realisation of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-2.
