MMRDA achieves a major transit milestone at Thane district with the launch of Mumbai Metro Line-9 Phase-1 trial run. This milestone was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis and several other officials. This development ensures seamless integration with key metro corridors, reducing congestion and offering sustainable, green mobility across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Introduction:
In a monumental event for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the trial run of Mumbai Metro Line-9 Phase-1 was flagged off, ushering in Thane district’s first-ever metro service. The trial run was ceremoniously inaugurated by top Maharashtra government leaders, showing the beginning of a new era in regional connectivity and sustainable transit system.
The event witnessed the presence of several high-profile dignitaries, including Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister & MMRDA Chairman Shri Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajit Pawar. A technical inspection was also held as part of the safety procedure to ensure operational preparedness.

About Metro Line-9 – A Multi-Layered Transit Vision:
Metro Line-9 is part of Mumbai’s pioneering double-decker viaduct concept, consisting of both metro and vehicular flyovers. This innovative design increases urban infrastructure space while reducing land acquisition and construction impact.
- Phase-1 Stretch: 4.4 km from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon
- Metro Stations: Dahisar (East), Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, Kashigaon
Key Connectivity Advantages:
Metro Line-9, after being fully operational, will provide residents of Mira-Bhayandar and adjacent areas with seamless access to key nodes in Mumbai through interconnectivity with other metro corridors-
- To CSMIA Airport via Line-7 and 7A
- To Andheri (West) via Line-2B
- To Ghatkopar via Lines 7 and 1
- To Link Road via Metro Line-2A at Dahisar (East)
- To Thane via upcoming Line-10 at Miragaon (future link)
- To Vasai-Virar via upcoming Line-13
This intermodal integration will allow shorter travel times, seamless connectivity, and a smooth commuting experience.
