The NHSRCL is advancing with the infrastructure work in the Bullet train corridor, commenced its first slab casting at Virar Bullet Train station, while Vapi station nears structural completion. Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project achieving engineering milestones one after another, including bridges, viaduct, track works across the area.
Introduction:
Taking a crucial leap towards infrastructure development, NHSRCL is progressing rapidly with the construction work in the Vapi station, and cast its first slab in the Virar station. Both the Bullet Train stations are key stations of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor and will play a significant role in connecting major areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The Vapi Bullet Train station located in Dungra village on the Vapi-Silvassa road, is designed with the theme of speed and modernity, the futuristic architecture design will compliment the theme very well. Advanced technologies and precise engineering is used in constructing robust infrastructure of the station.
Design and Amenities:
The station’s design shows the theme of speed, the infrastructure and interior aesthetic aligns with the theme. With a total built-up area of 28,917 square meters and a height of 22 metres, the station is expected to be a key station in the area. Several facilities will be provided in the station including, escalators, lifts, nursery, lounge and others for the convenience of passengers.
Strategic Location Advantage:
The station is strategically situated to serve both commuters and the industrial area of Vapi. It lies:
- 7 km from Vapi Railway Junction
- 7.5 km from Vapi Bus Stop
- 5 km from Vapi GIDC industrial area
This location strengthens its role as a major transit hub for commuters and industries alike.
Construction and Civil Work Progress:
Several construction works have been completed at Vapi station, including-
- Rail and platform level slab casting is complete.
- Structural steel erection work is done.
- Roof sheeting and electrical installations are currently in progress.
The station approach viaduct towards Ahmedabad has been completed, with work ongoing on the Mumbai-facing side. The station will connect with Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed corridor after its construction and infrastructural work gets completed.
Virar Bullet Train Station – First Major Slab Cast:
The construction at Virar Bullet Train Station has entered a significant phase with the start of slab casting at the rail level. The first slab, measuring 50 meters in length and 35.32 meters in width, with a thickness of approximately 300 mm, is being constructed using 1,555 cubic meters of concrete. This is the first of nine such slabs that will form the foundational base for the track-laying works at the station.
Station Layout– The Virar station will consist of two levels — the Concourse Level and the Rail Level — with a total station length of 425 meters.
Design Inspiration– Uniquely located on a hilly terrain, the station’s architectural concept draws inspiration from mountain winds, reflecting natural fluidity and movement through its structural elements.
Overall Project Progress:
The broader Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor is also moving ahead steadily. As of now:
- 304 km of viaduct work has been completed.
- 388 km of pier construction is done.
- 14 river bridges, 7 steel bridges, and 5 pre-stressed concrete (PSC) bridges are fully completed.
- 163 km of track bed construction is finished, laying the foundation for future track installation.
These developments show the project’s steady pace and smooth execution across Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Conclusion:
The rapid progress at Virar and Vapi stations highlights the execution strength and pace of India’s first bullet train project. With vital civil and track infrastructure nearing completion, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor is on track to transform high-speed connectivity, economic integration, and passenger experience across two key states.
