Western Railway is always determined to provide better services to its valued customers. Continuing with this tradition, Western Railway has decided to install 126 more Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (AVTMs) across Mumbai Suburban stations.

This initiative will not only popularize ATVMs and Mobile Ticketing Application – Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) but also create awareness amongst commuters as well as encourage them to be a part of ‘Digital India’ national movement by using smart cards and mobile ticketing to get their journey ticket hassle free.

According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, currently there are 370 ATVMs functioning over Mumbai Suburban stations from Churchgate to Dahanu Road and approximately 5.50 lakh active smart card users over Mumbai Suburban. ATVMs provide hassle free ticketing to the commuters as well as decongest the ticket windows with no more long queues.

With a view to augment this facility to commuters and to ensure availability of ATVMs at every entry/exit of stations, Mumbai Division has procured 126 additional ATVMs to be installed at stations of Mumbai Suburban section. Out of these, 45 numbers of additional ATVMs have been commissioned at 21 suburban stations till date and balance 81 numbers of ATVMs will be installed by 31 January, 2019.

Some of the Salient features of ATVMs are as under:

  1. Self-operated, touch screen based ticketing kiosk which accepts payment using RFID Smart cards.
  2. Preloaded Smart Cards can be purchased/ recharged/ returned at nominated counters at all stations from Churchgate to Dahanu Road.
  3. Deposit of Rs.50/- and minimum usage value of Rs.20/-. Further value in multiples of Rs.50, upto a maximum of 9,500/- can be loaded on the card.
  4. The passengers can use the ATVM for issuing all tickets available on UTS counter, except issue fresh Season ticket, tourist ticket and Journey extension ticket.
