In Chennai Metro Rail, the platforms in the underground stations are fitted with Platform Screen Door (PSD) with a height of 2,650 mm. PSD covers full height of the platform without any gap between floor levels to ceiling. With the increase in full automation of new and existing lines, PSDs are a must as they ensure the safety of passengers.
By controlling the flow of passengers they also ensure that tight headway schedule is maintained. PSDs also offer an additional support for signage, visual and auditory cubes, general network information and advertising.
- PSD reduces to a large extent the penetration of dust from the tunnel or outdoors and increases passenger comfort by reducing the draught created by the entry of trains and their departure.
- PSD also reduces the noise generated by trains.
- It facilitates smooth air-conditioning system by sealing the platform.
