A group of 18 trainees IAS officers (2018 batch) from Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNA) today visited Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation on their winter study tour. They were briefed and demonstrated about the systems, functioning, safety and precautions and the general administration of the company, followed by an engaging session with Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, LMRC.
The trainee officers visited the Transport Nagar Metro Depot and were accompanied by senior officials of LMRC to the Rolling Stock workshop, Inspection Bay Line and the Operations Control Centre (OCC) where they saw real time monitoring of all the trains and stations.
From the metro depot they headed straight to the Transport Nagar Metro Station for the metro ride that every LMRC visitor takes to get a feel of the world class Urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). They expressed their joy upon their experience of not only the train ride but also the dedication and commitment with which the Metro staff is catering to the needs of passengers. What caught their special attention was the carefully incorporated safety features inside the metro trains and the special care taken for the convenience of the specially-able.
LMRC MD, Shri Kumar Keshav shared his valuable experience of 34 years of service with them who would soon be taking charge of different public sectors. He said, “When I started the Lucknow Metro project, with just a team of three people, I knew the challenges awaiting me were extremely tough, but if you are determined to work and achieve a target, no one can stop you. With a team that’s my pride, we have become the first to complete the project ahead of the estimated time.”
Adding on the vision behind making Lucknow metro safe and barrier-free, he added, “From the very beginning I was clear about the fact that Lucknow Metro will not have separate women coaches because that’s not the solution, that’s not empowering them. Instead, I want women to use each and every compartment and yet feel safe instead of getting confined to a limited area. Our job is to provide safety features that ensure a safe and a comfortable ride for everyone and let them decide where they want to sit.”
Motivating the young officers, he added, “Everyone needs a good leader who can take charge and provide the right guidance; become that leader and the rest will follow.”
Lucknow Metro is set to begin trials soon for the balanced section of North-South corridor (Phase-1A) and in just a short time Lucknowites will be able to ride the metro from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport till Munshipulia.
