Titagarh consortium bags Rs. 430 crore contract for additional Pune Metro trainsets from Maha Metro

The consortium of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited and Titagarh Firema S.p.A. has bagged a Rs. 430.53 crore contract from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited to supply 12 additional trainsets for the Pune Metro and Training of Personnel for the project. This expansion follows their previous award of contract for 102 aluminium coaches under the city’s metro modernization project.

Introduction:

In a major stride towards accelerating India’s urban transport, the consortium of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) and its associate company Titagarh Firema S.p.A. has secured a significant contract from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) for the Pune Metro Rail Project.

The consortium has been awarded a contract for the supply of 12 additional trainsets under Clause A.6 of Contract No: P1/RS-01/2018, which pertains to the Design, Manufacture, Supply, Testing, and Commissioning of passenger Rolling Stock (EMUs) along with training of personnel for the Pune Metro.

Contract Overview:

  • Contract Value: Rs. 430.53 crore
  • Execution Period: 30 months
  • Client: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited
  • Scope: Additional 12 trainsets (as quantity variation)

Project Background:

This latest order builds upon a previous contract in 2019, when the same consortium was awarded a significant contract for the Pune Metro Rail Project. The earlier contract, valued at approximately Rs. 1100 crore, involved the Design, Manufacture, Supply, Testing, Commissioning and delivery of 102 (34 trainsets of 3 coaches each) aluminum metro coaches.

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. acted as the lead member in the consortium, with its wholly owned Italian subsidiary Titagarh Firema S.p.A. contributing its expertise in rolling stock design and manufacturing. That contract marked a crucial step for Pune Metro in adopting lightweight aluminum coaches with modern design standards and improved energy efficiency.

Strategic Significance:

This new contract for additional rolling stock comes at a time when Pune Metro is scaling up its operations and preparing for wider network expansion. The 12 new trainsets will play a critical role in enhancing passenger capacity, service frequency, and operational reliability.

The continued trust shown by Maha-Metro in the Titagarh consortium also highlights the successful performance of the earlier trainsets supplied and the company’s ability to meet quality and delivery standards.

Titagarh’s growing footprint in India’s urban transit segment reflects the government’s push toward Make in India, modernization of city transport systems, and improved passenger mobility.

Conclusion:

The awarding of this Rs. 430.53 crore order for 12 additional trainsets to the Titagarh consortium reflects its strong partnership with Maha-Metro and commitment to urban transit transformation. As Pune Metro advances towards full-scale operations, these new trainsets will further improve passenger experience and service delivery in the city.
