Chennai: The State government may sign an agreement with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) for implementing the Rs 85,000 crore (approx US$ 13,077 Million) phase-2 of Chennai Metro Rail project by March-April next year.
S Krishnan, Principal Secretary, Planning, Development & Special Initiatives said, a Pre-appraisal Mission from JICA will be visiting the city next month to discuss the second phase of Chennai Metro after which an agreement will be signed by March-April next year.

The DPR (Detailed Project Report) for implementing the second Phase of Chennai Metro rail has been sent to the Centre, he said.
The second Phase of Chennai Metro rail will have three corridors –
- Madhavaram – Siruseri
- Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus – Lighthouse
- Madhavaram – Sholinganallur
There is also a proposal to extend Chennai Metro Rail line from Lighthouse near Marina Beach to Poonamallee, near Chennai, at an additional cost of Rs 3,850 crore (approx US$ 592 Million).
