Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has emerged as the lowest bidder for the Bhusaval-Khandwa section upgrade. The Rs. 137.16 crore project includes the design, supply, and commissioning of a 2×25 kV traction system to meet Central Railway’s 3,000 MT freight target. The work will be completed in 24 months on an EPC basis.
The project involves the following key activities:
- Civil Works: Earthwork, boundary walls, control buildings, and foundations for equipment.
- Electrical Works: Installation of traction transformers, circuit breakers, auto transformers, and other critical equipment.
- General Works: Control building wiring, yard lighting, and additional miscellaneous tasks.
Technical Details:
- The existing 1×25 kV system is inadequate for the increased power requirements. The 2×25 kV system distributes current more efficiently, reducing voltage drops and accommodating higher freight loads.
- The project includes two traction substations (TSS), two sectioning posts (SP), and six subsectioning posts (SSP).
- Future-proofing measures include provisions for third and fourth lines in the double-line sections.
Survey and Land Use:
Preliminary surveys identified locations for power supply installations, with railway land available for construction. Additional land requirements will be addressed as needed during execution.
Conclusion:
This significant contract awarded to RVNL highlights Indian Railways’ commitment to modernizing its infrastructure. By upgrading to the 2×25 kV traction system, Central Railway aims to achieve efficient operations and meet its ambitious freight targets, reinforcing its role as a vital player in India’s transportation network.
