The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor progresses as power supply reaches Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar stations. With Auxiliary Sub-Stations energised, these stations advance in operational readiness. This temporary power arrangement from Ghaziabad RSS will support trial runs, with a permanent setup expected upon completion of Sarai Kale Khan RSS.
Power Supply Advances in Delhi RRTS Section:
The Namo Bharat trains are undergoing trial runs on the Delhi section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, covering areas beyond the current operational section from Sahibabad to Meerut South. The Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar RRTS stations have now received power supply from the Auxiliary Sub-Stations (ASS), energised to a capacity of 33 kV to support various station functions.
Temporary Power Provisions for Delhi Section:
- A 33 kV cable line has been laid from the Ghaziabad Receiving Sub Station (RSS) to both Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar stations.
- This line, installed through the RRTS viaduct and tunnel networks, currently provides temporary power to these stations.
- This setup will remain until the Sarai Kale Khan RSS is fully operational.
- The Sarai Kale Khan RSS, now in the final stages of construction, will serve as a permanent power source.
- Once complete, it will receive 220 kV power from Delhi Transco Limited and the Gas Turbine Power Station (GTPS) at IP Estate.
RRTS Power Infrastructure:
- Electric power for the RRTS stations is managed through a network of Receiving Sub Stations (RSS) and Auxiliary Sub-Stations (ASS).
- The RSS units, which receive power from distribution companies, channel energy to ASS rooms at each station, supporting both station operations and train functions.
- The RRTS corridor from Delhi to Meerut includes five Receiving Sub Stations, of which three—Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Shatabdi Nagar (Meerut)—are already operational.
- The Sarai Kale Khan RSS will be operational soon, with the fifth RSS at Modipuram (Meerut) currently under construction.
Agreements for Power Supply Along RRTS Corridor:
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has secured agreements with power transmission corporations in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The grid substations provide 220 kV power to NCRTC’s RSS at Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Shatabdi Nagar, with 25 kV dedicated for train operations and 33 kV for station needs through the ASS network.
Trial Run and Corridor Expansion:
Trial runs from New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad are progressing smoothly, setting the stage for the operational expansion of the RRTS corridor to 54 kilometres. This extension will connect key stations, including Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar, enhancing transit options across the National Capital Region (NCR). Currently, the corridor operates across 42 kilometres with nine stations, from Sahibabad to Meerut South, serving a large commuter base daily.
Conclusion:
The energization of Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar marks a vital milestone in Delhi’s RRTS development. With temporary power arrangements in place and the Sarai Kale Khan RSS nearing completion, the Delhi section is on track for seamless connectivity, improving transit options and convenience across the NCR.
